Campus and Lifestyle
Campus
The AMC is an internationally recognised maritime and marine institute situated on the Tamar River in Northern Tasmania. With two campuses AMC facilities are placed in the best possible locations aimed at giving all students a diverse university experience through easy access to amenities plus social and recreational activities.
Sitting alongside the University of Tasmania about 6km outside of Launceston city is the main AMC campus at Newnham. As the primary administration and learning centre the campus provides students with a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle and access to accommodation, student services, banks, library, post office, cafes and restaurants. The second campus, based at Beauty Point delivers courses in vessel operations. The training vessels FTV Bluefin, Stephen Brown, Skipjack and Riveresco are moored here. The AMC Marine Firefighting Centre is located at Bell Bay about 40kms north of Launceston city. This facility is used for fire training education for students and staff.
Lifestyle
With a growing population of half a million people Tasmania sits 240kms (150 miles) south of Australia (map). We are an island state with national parks, mountain ranges, a thriving music and art scene, gourmet food and wine, friendly bars, shopping and a multi-cultural and active lifestyle.
Hobart, our capital city is located in the South and Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city is situated on the Tamar river in Northern Tasmania. It enjoys mild weather and celebrates its food, wine and cultural scene in a variety of ways. Aurora Stadium is the Tasmanian home of AFL and the Hawthorn Football Club. The Cataract Gorge Reserve offers a variety of activities from whitewater rafting, nature walks, abseiling to rock climbing all just a short walk from the Launceston CBD. It’s the perfect blend of urban lifestyle with nature on the doorstep. Crave a change of scene? Then take an ideal 50 minute flight with any major airline to Melbourne or take your car on the Spirit of Tasmania which travels daily between Devonport and Melbourne.
