Since 1994, Dr Shekar Bose has been involved in teaching Fisheries Economics and Management, Seafood Marketing, Management and Project Planning, and Applied Fisheries Economics at AMC’s Faculty of Fisheries and the Marine Environment. He has also delivered lectures on a variety of selected topics including Economics of Recreational Fishing, Marine Resource Management, Fisheries Surveillance and Compliance, and Environmental Economics.

Shekar is a regular reviewer of many international journals. During 1998-2001 he worked as Australian Correspondent for the Fisheries Economics Newsletter. He has published several articles relating to fisheries economics and pure economic theory in the peer-reviewed international journals. Over the past several years he has developed, revised and upgraded several economics-related courses at the Faculty and has been actively involved in writing external modules for postgraduate courses. From 1999 - 2000 he was involved in the project ‘An Economic Assessment of the South-East Fisheries Adjustment Program’ funded by Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Australia (AFFA). He was also involved as a field study team leader and a principal research assistant in a number of research projects organised and funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) and the United Nations Development Projects (UNDP).

In 1998, Shekar was awarded the Australian Maritime College Council Award for Academic Excellence for Excellence in Teaching.
