1. Familiarise yourself with the rules of your degree
Each degree has course specifications (ie. rules for completion)
together with a schedule of units which are the principle references
that should be used when choosing your units. You should read the
course structure information together with the schedules before
selecting your units.
- select the link to Course and Units under the Information About heading
- select the year you commenced your major (or if no major then the year you commenced your degree)
- select the Business study area from the list of Study Areas and Courses
- select the link or the degrees you are taking, for example Bachelor of Business (Maritime and Logistics Management)
- select the tab for Structure and Schedule, which appears directly under the heading of the degree
- select a link under the Schedules heading for information about units in a particular major or year level of the course
2. Work out which units you will study in your degree
Remember to check any compulsory units which must be taken for your degree
3. Complete your enrolment
Current students
are able to re-enrol online through the eStudent Centre. Select the
Unit Code, Semester, Attendance Code (A = on campus, D = study by
distance education) and Study Centre (H = Hobart, L = Launceston, W =
Cradle Coast). Also fill out your expected graduation semester and year.
New students will be sent an offer/enrolment form by
mail. Write your Unit Codes, Unit Titles, Semester, Attendance Code (A
= on campus, D = study by distance education) and Study Centre ((H =
Hobart, L = Launceston, W = Cradle Coast). Also fill out your expected
graduation semester and year.
There will be an opportunity for you to vary your enrolment, should you
change your mind about your unit selection. You can vary your enrolment
any time up until the Census Date without any penalties, providing you
have the Unit Co-ordinator’s and Faculty Officer’s approval for
addition of units after Week 2 of semester.
4. Gain overall course approval from a Faculty Officer. It is important that a Faculty Officer checks that:
- you are not taking any units you shouldn't be
- you meet the requirements for your major(s) and the rules of the degree
- you have met the pre-requisites/s of the units in which you are enrolling
- are on track to graduate at the date you have nominated.
Adding units after the end of Week 2 of semester requires written approval from the Unit Co-ordinator and a Faculty Officer. Students who have re-enrolled online will have their enrolment checked electronically. You should regularly check the approval status of your enrolment on the eStudent Centre.
Course Approval Status "NOT APPROVED"
If your enrolment course approval status shows as "Not Approved" you need to be pro-active
and contact a Faculty Officer urgently to resolve any problems with
your enrolment. You are advised to resolve enrolment issues as soon as
they are detected, and you should be aware that Census Date for each
semester is the last date to withdraw from a unit without financial
penalty. Enrolment errors may result in unnecessary academic or
financial penalties, and may also delay your graduation.
Course Approval Status "APPROVED"
If all of the above details have been checked and there are no
enrolment problems, the Faculty Officer will mark your Course Approval
Status as "Approved" and you need take no further action. Any future
amendments that you make to your enrolment will be subject to
re-assessment by the Faculty office for course approval.
Course Approval Status "NOT YET APPROVED"
This message indicates that Faculty staff have yet to assess
your enrolment for course approval. Check your course approval status
regularly to ensure that your enrolment is approved prior to Census
Date.
Students who have enrolled on a paper form will need to have a Faculty
Officer sign their enrolment form to gain overall course approval.
5. Special Approval
Is required from a Faculty Officer if an overload is to be attempted (ie more than 50% in a semester). Waivers of pre-requisites require Faculty Officer approval following a recommendation from the Major Co-ordinator.
6. Applications for Credit
Students seeking credit for previously study must submit an application for credit and supporting documentation to the Faculty Officer for consideration well in advance of the census date. Credit cannot be processed where documentation is incomplete. It can take up to 4 weeks for credit to be processed.
7. Census Dates
Semester 1: 20 March 2008
Semester 2: 7 August 2008
8. Graduation Details
It is of utmost importance that you register your expected completion dates as this can impact on you when you graduate. Delays in graduation could result if this information is not completed or if it is incorrect. You should revise your graduation details, if required, during the period of enrolment. You can update your graduation details online through the eStudent Centre.
9. Personal Details
Students must keep the university informed of their personal details (address, telephone contacts, citizenship etc.) particularly if these should change after your last enrolment. Your contact details are important should we find it necessary to get in touch with you. The other means of communication is email. You should check your email account a least once a week as important information regarding your enrolment may be sent to it.
10. Have you received an Enrolment Confirmation veryifying your enrolment?
Once you have enrolled, an enrolment confirmation is generated and emailed to you for continuing students or sent to your home address for new students. You must check your confirmation carefully to ensure it is correct, as mistakes or omissions can be made. If you find an error or omission, contact a Faculty Officer immediately.
Receiving an enrolment confirmation does not mean your enrolment has been approved.
11. Deferring an enrolment
There are forms that must be completed to advise us if you wish to defer your enrolment (new students) or to take a leave of absence (continuing students) from study for a period of up to 12 months.
International students should seek advice from International Services office in the first instance as the above information may not apply to them.
