Teaching and Learning Plans and Policies

A range of AMC teaching and learning documents are currently being adapted and aligned (and in some cases replaced) through AMC’s integration with UTAS as of January 1, 2008. A number of the documents linked below are thus subject to change.

The newly constituted AMC Board of Studies (which replaces the AMC Academic Board) will continue to play a significant role in the management of educational programs in accordance with its terms of reference as approved by the AMC Board. All AMC documentation that relates to teaching and learning is located in the AMC document library.

Related UTAS plans, policies & guidelines

See UTAS University Policies and Plans for teaching and learning related matters – these are listed under the headings ‘Assessment’ and ‘Teaching’.

Rule 2 Academic Assessment and Rule 3 Admission and Student Progress are made by Academic Senate and they describe all the formal procedures that relate to student assessment and progression. These replace AMC Courses and Awards Rules.

Take particular note of the Code of Conduct for Teaching and Learning (listed under the ‘Teaching’ category of policies). This code outlines:

  • the responsibilities of the University to students; and
  • the responsibilities of students to the University (this latter code overriding the former AMC student charter).

Academic staff members need to become familiar with this code – it outlines what students have the right to expect in relation to matters such as unit information, assessment and access to staff.

Assessment

Academic Senate of UTAS has also approved the Policy on Assessment Practice. This policy seeks to provide a broad policy framework for assessment practice across the University taking into account current ordinances, rules, policies, codes of conduct and guidelines. This should be read in conjunction with AMC T&L14 Assessment.
Based on this framework, a recent (2007) working party has released UTAS Guidelines for Good Assessment Practice [PDF: 444kb]

Plagiarism and other misconduct

The University has a statement on Plagiarism and Academic Integrity. A link to this, and other matters related to academic integrity can be found on the UTAS Academic Integrity web site.
AMC T&L10 Academic Misconduct explains AMC procedures for dealing with academic misconduct when this is suspected.
