Huon Aquaculture Company Year 2 Degree Student

Huon Aquaculture Company Pty Ltd (HAC), is situated at Hideaway Bay near Dover at the mouth of the Huon Estuary and is the largest privately owned salmon company in Australia. The company specialises in the production of Atlantic Salmon from their hatchery to sea-cage growout and produces 10,000 tonnes per annum.
HAC is the most technologically advanced salmon farm in Australia and is widely acknowledged as the industry leader in all key aspects of production. HAC holds additional advantages compared to the overseas product as well as the Tasmanian competition including:
  • Use of specialised lighting regimes
  • The most advanced feeding system yet developed
  • Use of humane harvesting techniques
  • A highly trained, skilled and motivated workforce

The Huon Aquaculture Company 2009 scholarship programme is a competitive scholarship awarded annually to a year two student enrolled in the current Bachelor of Aquaculture (S3K) degree at AMC.

Scholarship Benefit

The scholarship awarded will provide the successful candidate with a cash benefit of $3,000 paid in fortnightly instalments.
As part of the sponsorship, the successful candidate will be offered paid work experience over the semester / summer breaks as well as the possibility of full time employment once he / she graduates.
If graduates commence full-time employment, training will be offered for additional qualifications, i.e. coxswain's certificate, commercial diver's certificate, forklift, deck machinery etc, depending on the area of employment.

Eligibility

Applicants should be:

  • Commencing year 2 of their degree course at AMC in 2009

The application should include:

  • Copy of academic transcript
  • A brief statement from the applicant outlining his/her long term goals and the benefits he/she hopes to derive from the course;
  • A curriculum vitae, including any community leadership or service activities in which the applicant has participated;
  • A confidential reference from an academic mentor;
  • Contact details of at least one other referee who can attest to the applicant's participation in AMC/UTAS or community activities.


The student must provide details that demonstrate excellence in undergraduate study and shows leadership potential.

Duration of Scholarship

Four Semesters plus paid work experience in semester breaks and a possible Graduate position.
