Feedback Assignment 1 - Overall results

Ok, some feedback on Assignment 1. In previous forums I have placed all the feedback on one posting, but this makes it a very long posting and probably difficult to revisit. This time the feedback will be divided between a few postings, thus making it less tiring to read and easy to refer back to. This posting deals with the feedback in general.

Some very good marks were awarded, so well done guys, particularly for the first assignment. The range was 5 – 17 out of 20.  The breakup in terms of grades is: Fail = 31%; Pass = 25%; Credit = 6%; Distinction = 25%; and High Distinction = 13%.  The average mark was 11.6/20 or 58%. 

The major reasons for the lower marks were penalties being deducted for either late submission, excessive word count, not providing any references (or too few), or plagiarism.  Easy marks were also being lost for not complying with presentation requirements as per Steve's Automotive.

Just a reminder that a penalty of 10% per day (that is, 2 marks per day for Assignment 1, and 3 marks per day for Assignment 2) applies where an extension has not been granted. Please help us to help you by requesting the extension before the assignment due date. Requests received on the due date and after have little chance of being granted unless exceptional circumstances apply.   Substantive and supported reasons must be provided for extensions.
