Marine Science delegates share their expertise

The Australian Maritime College is sharing its expertise with the international community at a major marine sciences conference in New Zealand next week.

The annual New Zealand Marine Science Conference from July 7-10 in Christchurch is a leading forum for academics and students from around the globe.

The theme of the conference is human impacts and diverse ecosystems with presentations highlighting impacts, threats, modifications and knowledge of function across diverse ecosystems.

Problems faced within the temperate to subantarctic ecosystems of Australia and New Zealand will be of particular focus.

A number of staff from the AMC will be attending and presenting papers at the conference.

AMC presentations will include :

• Dr Natalie Moltschaniwskyj on commercial V selective bred Pacific oysters;
• Dr Troy Gaston on spatial and temporal changes in the abundance and distribution of mesozooplankton in the Tamar Estuary;
• David Maynard on application of light stimuli to reduce bycatch in prawn trawl fisheries;

• Dr Jeffrey Wright on the negative effects of an invasive alga at different ecological levels;
