The Australian Maritime College will host its most comprehensive and
entertaining open day yet, as part of UTAS Info Day on Sunday, August
17.
While the emphasis remains firmly on highlighting AMC’s world class
facilities and courses through tours and one-on-one sessions with staff
and students, guests from around Australia will also be treated to a
host of activities and events across the Launceston campus between 10am
to 3pm.
Industry representatives will also be on hand so for the first time,
potential students can not only get advice on their studies but can
gain valuable insight into their potential careers after graduation.
And for the first time, a special VIP programme has been developed to
ensure people who have expressed prior interest in AMC get tailor-made
attention through personalised tours of the teaching and research
facilities.
According to AMC spokesperson Victoria Purtell a lot of genuine
inquiries came into the AMC before Info Day and the programme was a way
of acknowledging that interest. “We understand that for a lot of students, especially those from
interstate, studying at the AMC requires a big commitment so we wanted
to create a programme that reflected the importance of their decision
to join us,” Ms Purtell said.
There will be demonstrations throughout the day at all of AMC’s
facilities including the ship simulator, sailing simulator, survival
centre, the model test basin and the towing tank. It’s the chance for
visitors to get hands on with the equipment while picking the brains of
the experts.
All interest in academic pursuits is fully supported on the day by live
entertainment from local band The Velvet Lounge and AMC student group
The Omanis. Away from the music there will be barbecued salmon,
courtesy of the AMC’s National Centre for Marine Conservation and
Resource Sustainability, a Rotary Club barbecue and the AMC cafeteria
will be open to visitors. The Coffee Stand will also be on site serving
fresh coffee.
