Should Ports be adapted to Ports, or Ports adapted to Ships?

Hi Ladies and Gents, Was doing some research on Port and Terminal and came across an interesting topic for discussion. "Should Ships be adapted to Ports, or Ports adapted to Ships?" My view in summary: Due to globalization and increase in trade flows, sizes of ships are increasing to accomodate to this demand for shipping space and also to achieve economies of scale. Thus ports in order to accomodate to the increasing sizes of ships, are also changing accordingly. Therefore I feel, Ports are adapting to Ships more than the other way round. What do you think? Would like to hear your views. Rgds Alfred Law
