Due date

The due date specified in the Unit Specification Booklet is the last acceptable postmark date for submission. This date can be found in the study schedule. It is your responsibility to ensure that the assessment items are posted, emailed or faxed on or before this date.

If you are studying at sea and unable to email or fax the assessment item, please place it in an envelope and arrange for an appropriate Officer to sign, date and seal it. This can then be posted to AMC on arrival at the next port.

Extensions

The Department of Maritime and Logistics Management expects that our students meet the requirements of business practice. One of the most important requirements is that set deadlines are achieved. It is expected that assessment items are completed and submitted by the due date.

It is recognised that from time to time exceptional circumstances can arise whereby it becomes difficult to complete an assessment item by a due date. In these circumstances, students need to apply for an extension for extra time to complete an assessment item.

All applications for extensions must be made in writing, using the appropriate form, to the Distance Education Coordinator prior to the due date. This form is contained under the Forms menu of the toolbox. Medical certificates or other evidence must be attached and the application must contain sufficient information that justifies the extension sought. Should the reason for your request be work related, please be aware that extensions are only considered for work commitments ‘over and above' your normal duties. Supporting documentation from your supervisor/manager may assist your extension request.

If the application is considered justified then the Distance Education Coordinator in consultation with the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management is authorised to grant an extension.

If an assessment item is dispatched after the due date or the extension date, the marking of such assessment is at the sole discretion of the Unit Coordinator. The penalty for late submission of assignments is a deduction of up to 10% of the maximum mark for the assignment per day.

Return of coursework

The Unit Coordinator will endeavour to mark the assessment within two weeks of receipt at AMC. Items submitted early will be returned within two weeks of the assignment's due date. Please contact the Distance Education Centre with any concerns regarding assessment return.

Note that examination scripts are not returned to students.

Examinations

Examinations for each unit are held within the dates given in the Unit Specification Booklet. The Distance Education team dispatches the examinations to you. Deferred examinations are held annually in January. The Department of Maritime and Logistics Management does not offer supplementary examinations.

In order to pass a unit of study, students must obtain an aggregate of 50% of all available marks overall. In addition, it is a requirement that students achieve a minimum 40% of the examination value. All assessment items must be submitted by the dates outlined in the appropriate Unit Specification Booklet.
