The Student
Charter sets out rights and responsibilities of AMC students and is distributed
to all commencing students on enrolment.
Rights - In pursuing its missions, the AMC
recognises the following rights of its students:

to experience high quality teaching

to expect that the learning experiences provided
will be challenging and stimulating
-
to expect that course content will be relevant and
in accord with developments in the maritime industries
-
to be treated with respect and courtesy by AMC staff
and fellow students, in an environment free from harassment of all kinds
including that based on gender, ethnicity, age, disability or background
-
to have opportunities to participate in
institutional decision making
-
to be members of a student organisation which
represents students' interests in AMC
-
to be informed about what is expected of them in
each area of study
-
to receive fair, timely and useful feedback on their
performances and progress
-
to have a say about the value, relevance and
effectiveness of their academic programs and the teaching they experience
-
to be informed about how their views are taken into
consideration in enhancing the teaching and content of programs
-
to have effective support from academic and general
staff when needed
-
to have access to quality facilities, equipment and
resources necessary for the achievement of their academic goals and relevant to
technological advances in the maritime industries
-
to have access to clear and direct administrative
guidelines and procedures
-
to expect that courses satisfy the requirements of
the maritime industries and relevant professional bodies
-
to have access to adequate procedures for dealing
with grievances
-
to have access to current and accurate information
about courses, administrative procedures and financial implications
-
in the case of research students, to be adequately
supervised
-
to enjoy legal entitlements, in terms of
confidentiality, processing and access
to personal files.
Responsibilities - In exercising their rights, AMC students
are expected to accept the following responsibilities:

to participate fully in the range of experiences
which make up their courses of study

to become self-motivated and self-directed learners
-
to make the best possible use of opportunities AMC
provides
-
to fully acknowledge, and properly reference, the
contributions of others in any work which is submitted
-
to provide honest and fair feedback to the teaching
staff
-
to treat fellow students and College staff with
openness, honesty and courtesy, free from harassment of all kinds, including
that based on gender, ethnicity, age, disability or background
-
to respect AMC property
-
to make themselves aware of, and adhere to AMC
requirements, including those contained in codes of conduct, course and award
rules and administrative procedures
-
to monitor their own academic progress and to seek
personal or academic assistance should difficulties arise
-
to ensure that they are in a fit state to perform
safely the duties and tasks properly required of them.
