In addition to the Utas Code of Conduct, the
primary concern of the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management is
knowledge development in an environment that is congenial and respectful
towards all our staff and students. All our staff and students expect to be
treated in a courteous and respectful manner. The successful nurturing of the
continuous development of knowledge and learning depends on the ability of the
Department of Maritime and Logistics Management to maintain this congenial and
respectful environment. Occasionally, the behaviour of someone can make other
people feel very uncomfortable and, in extreme cases, can result in distress
being caused. Such behaviour can include using abusive language, including in
emails or on the phone, or behaving in an aggressive or insulting way towards
others. This is considered to be disruptive conduct.
Disruptive
conduct will be taken very seriously and reported to the Registrar. A written
warning will be served on the first instance of such behaviour. For students,
any repeat behaviour will result in exclusion for at least one year from the
course and may have restrictions imposed on future studies with Department of
Maritime and Logistics Management. Members of staff are similarly bound by the
institutional Code of Conduct.
By treating
such incidents as seriously as we do, we hope to eliminate them altogether. An
environment that is conducive to knowledge development and learning is our
priority.
