MLM Toolbox for Students - Failure to Complete

A student who is unable to complete all the items of assessment for a subject by the date specified may:

  1. apply to discontinue from the Unit of study without penalty in accordance with Rule 22, Courses and Awards Rules; or
  2. apply for an extension of time to complete the work.

An application for extension shall be made on the appropriate form, available in the Division office. This form should be given to the Unit Coordinator for agreement. An application may be approved only on the basis of extenuating circumstances acceptable to the Course Coordinator. If approval is given, the extension shall not extend beyond the Census date of the following semester. A student who fails to complete the requirements within the period specified shall be assessed on the basis of any work submitted.

If illness or other serious cause adversely affects the formal assessment of a student's work during semester, the student must notify the Unit Coordinator(s) concerned and the Registrar as soon as possible. Notification with supporting evidence must be received before the due date of the final assessment for the unit of study in order for illness or other cause to be taken into account in the assessment of the student's work.

A student who is unable to attend an examination owing to illness or other serious cause shall notify the Course Coordinator and shall submit evidence for the purpose of explaining the absence within three working days of the examination. This must be provided on the form available from Student Administration. (Note that it is recommended that this form be collected prior to visiting your doctor, if possible.)

In the event of an illness during an examination, the student must notify the invigilator at the time and submit evidence to the Course Coordinator within three working days of the examination.

The Course Coordinator shall report all submissions made under Rules 10.4 and 10.6 to the Course Examination Committee, which may:

  1. permit the student to undertake a deferred examination or other form of assessment, or
  2. determine that a grade be awarded on the basis of items of assessment previously completed by the student.

Where a student fails to comply with the examination conditions, a grade of FAIL is automatically incurred.

Please note that there are no supplementary examinations in the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management.
