The Course Examination Committee will identify students whose performance has been excellent and nominate to Academic Board those students recommended for an award with distinction. In the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management this is calculated using the Grade Point Assessment system.
The distinction GPA is calculated by assigning a score on the following scale, and dividing by the number of units of study:
| Fail | 4 points |
| Pass | 5 points |
| Credit | 6 points |
| Distinction | 7 points |
| High Distinction | 8 points |
Students who are granted an award with distinction will be placed on the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management' Roll of Excellence. The Vice-President, Academic and Research, maintains the Roll.
