J1U Diploma of Applied Science (Deck Watchkeeper)

Entry requirements

  • Completion of AMC Pre-sea Training (Deck) or equivalent.
  • Students with English as second language need on IELTS score of at least 5.5 or 5 overall.
  • AMSA approved Medical requirements and eyesight test
  • Students who intend to undertake an Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) oral examination for a seagoing Certificate of Competency on completion of this course will be required to provide evidence of seatime with AMSA prior to undertaking the oral examination as per Marine Orders Part 3.  A final seatime assessment is conducted at AMC during your course.   This would usually require students to have a traineeship or cadetship with a shipping company. Course structure

The program consists of one phase:

Students undertaking this course commence the seafaring career pathway at Phase 3

            Phase 3: Deck Watchkeeper education and training including STCW95 short courses (33 weeks at AMC)
