Integrated Rating
TDM30307 Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations-Integrated Rating)
The course provides approved training to the competency requirements for an Integrated Rating, as specified by the Marine Orders Part 3 and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
Career opportunities
An IR is a general crew member on a ship and is not specifically allocated to engine room or deck duties. Being an IR is a skilled occupation and involves assisting with cargo operations, conducting engine and navigational watches, assisting with berthing and unberthing operations and undertake general servicing and maintenance of the ship and its machinery.
Entry requirements
For admission into the course AMC has the following requirements:
- Minimum education requirement of Year 10 or equivalent
- Adequate medical fitness
To be eligible to be issue an AMSA certificate of proficiency and work as an Integrated Rating requires the following:
- Completed an approved training course (i.e. TDM30307)
- Be over 18 year of age
- Complete at least 36 weeks qualifying sea service on a designated ship
- Hold a current certificate of medical fitness
Duration
- Approximately 13 weeks at AMC and requires 36 weeks seatime on an ocean going vessel.
Course structure
The course is offered through off-the-job training at AMC, followed by on-the-job training on suitable vessels using a structured Task and Guided Study program. The modules include:
- Overview of the Shipping Industry
- Shipboard Management and Procedures
- Ship Maintenance
- Marine Rigging Technology
- Deck Machinery
- Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
- Basic Fire Prevention and Control
- Elementary First Aid
- Main Propulsion
- Ancillary Systems
- Training Vessel
- Welding and Thermal Cutting
- Manual Metal Arc Welding
- Machining
- Hand and Power Tools
Qualification
Upon satisfactory completion of the course and subject to meeting the requirements of AMSA, students may be able to obtain an Integrated Rating Certificate of Competency from AMSA.

Further training
Following sea service as an Integrated Rating, further courses may be undertaken for qualification as a Chief Integrated Rating, Deck Officer or Marine Engineering Officer.
