Doctor of Philosophy (Doctorate by Research - Maritime Engineering)
Doctoral candidates are expected to make a substantial original contribution to their field in the form of new knowledge or significant and original adaptation, application and interpretation of existing knowledge. These outcomes may be based on a comprehensive review of the literature, testing and experimentation, creative exegesis or other systematic approaches, or critical analysis of professional theory and practice.
Entry requirements
Entry to a doctoral program is based on evidence of a capacity to undertake research in the proposed field. The Dean of Graduate Research may admit as a candidate for the Degree of PhD, a person who has satisfied at least one of the following requirements:
- Bachelor degree with first class honours or second class honours upper division from a recognised tertiary institution;
- Master degree that required the completion and external examination of a substantial work, from a recognised tertiary institution;
- Other qualifications which are deemed by the Research Committee as equivalent to (1) or (2);
- Completion of at least twelve months of full time research towards Master by research within the AMC or other approved institution.
- Students from non-English speaking backgrounds require an IELTS score of 6.5.
Course structure
Doctoral candidates are required to:
- Submit a formal research proposal indicating the study to be undertaken;
- Carry out an original research project at a high level of originality and quality;
- Participate in and present progress seminars on their research topic;
- Present for external examination a substantial and well ordered thesis, in accordance with international standards.
- Candidates will be required to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Research
