Master of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation)

Master of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation)

The Master of Maritime Engineering (Technology Management) and Master of Maritime Engineering (Naval Engineering) degree programs are designed to provide engineering graduates with in-depth exposure to a wide range of subjects relevant to the development and procurement of maritime engineering systems.

These programs are aimed at engineering professionals already in the workforce with limited exposure to the maritime engineering sector and who wish to continue working while studying to gain a relevant professional qualification.

The course has been specifically designed to provide a flexible learning approach through interactive online study. In addition, some units are also available for on-campus study.

Individual units will also be available to professionals who may not wish to enrol in the program but who may wish to develop expertise in a particular area for professional development purposes.

Admission & Prerequisites

Achieved a pass or higher level in Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent.

Course Objectives

The Master of Maritime Engineering program will provide the opportunity for engineering graduates to gain an in-depth exposure to a range of subjects relevant to the development, procurement and through-life support of marine engineering plant. The degree will prepare students for making high level independent judgements in areas of planning, design, operational, technical and management functions in a maritime engineering context. Students will acquire an in-depth understanding of a topic and related research skills through a research project that is undertaken in a chosen field of specialist study.

The fields of study encompassed through two major specialisations and electives are:

Technology Management, which focuses on the knowledge required to develop a career in technical management across a broad range of maritime sectors. It extends undergraduate engineering knowledge into aspects of ship design, propulsion systems and associated auxillary machinery. Management theory in a variety of specialisms is acquired and critically applied through prescribed and electives units.

Naval Engineering, which focuses on the knowledge necessary to work in defence-related sectors and develop a career in areas of technical design and the systems engineering of naval projects. It extends undergraduate engineering knowledge into areas related to the design and performance of naval surface vessels and submarines.

Career Outcomes

The Master of Maritime Engineering degree is targeted at engineering professionals already in the workforce, who wish to pursue, or develop a career in the technical management of maritime engineering projects.
