Cummins Excellence in Engineering Awards

Cummins Inc., a global power leader, is a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. With their HO in the US, they service customers in more than 160 countries through their network of 550 company-owned and independent distributor facilities and more than 5,000 dealer locations.

Cummins will offer the Cummins Excellence in Maritime Engineering Award to one 3rd year AMC student undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering in either:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Marine and Offshore Systems)

Award

This award would comprise one of the following 2 options:

 

Award - Option 1

  • A Plaque
  • Return airfare to the US
  • 7 nights' accommodation with most meals provided
  • Visit to Columbus Tech Centre and CMEP Factory
  • Visit to Charleston-Cummins Marine H/O (CMB Factory and testing facility tour)
  • Visit to major shipyards in Charleston area.

Award - Option 2

  • A Plaque
  • Return airfare to UK
  • 7 nights' accommodation with most meals provided
  • Visit to Cummins Daventry High Horse Power Engine factory.
  • Visit to Cummins Ipswich C-Power C-Safe Classed generator set assembly factory
  • Visit to major shipyards in UK region.

A Cummins representative will accompany the winner on the above tours.

Eligibility

Applicants should be:

  • Year 3 students enrolled in one of the above degree courses as AMC.

Selection Criteria

Selection for the Cummins Maritime Engineering Award will be based on the following criteria;

  • Sound academic record
  • Leadership potential demonstrated by involvement in university, work or community activities
  • Creativity and innovation demonstrated by participation in practical exercises, individual or team projects, or exercises as part of the university curricular or extra- curricular activities

The application should address the selection criteria and include;

  • A copy of academic transcript;
  • A brief statement from the applicant outlining his/her long term goals and the benefits he/she hopes to derive from the award;
  • A curriculum vitae, including any community leadership or service activities in which the applicant has participated'
  • A confidential reference attesting to the applicant's academic ability, motivation and participation in the university or community activities (see attached form)
  • The applicant should forward the blank copy of the confidential referee form the selected referee;
  • The referee should forward the completed form to Di Hazelwood, Scholarships and Project Officer.
