Furness Withy (Australia) Pty Ltd

The Furness Withy (Australia) Scholarship is awarded annually to assist a full-time student enrolling on campus in any year of the Bachelor of Business (Maritime and Logistics Management) or Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Technology Management) degrees. Students with a keen interest in commercial shipping are encouraged to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship aims to provide an opportunity to a prospective or current student who may otherwise have difficulty in pursuing a tertiary qualification at the Australian Maritime College. Students enrolling in either:

• Bachelor of Business (Maritime and Logistics Management)
• Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Technology Management)

Scholarship Benefit

The scholarship awarded will provide a cash benefit of $5,000 which will be divided into fortnightly payments across each semester. The scholarship is funded by Furness Withy (Australia).

Duration of Scholarship

Two Semesters

Eligibility

Applicants will be:

• commencing or continuing a full-time degree on campus at AMC in 2009
• not in receipt of any other scholarship

Selection Criteria

• demonstrated interest in commercial shipping
• proven excellence in academic studies including tertiary entrance scores;
• leadership potential demonstrated by involvement in school and/or community activities
• an explanation of how the scholarship will assist applicants in their next year of study.

The application should include:

• a copy of an academic transcript
• statements addressing the selection criteria
• a brief statement long term goals and the benefits the student hopes to derive from the degree;
• a curriculum vitae, including any community leadership or service activities in which the applicant has participated;
• a confidential reference from an academic mentor;
• contact details of at least one other referee who can attest to the applicant's leadership potential in school and/or community activities.
