Seafaring

Have you thought about a seafaring career? Left the navy and want to work ashore? In the coastal industry but want to move to ocean going vessels? Then AMC is the place to gain your qualifications.

Beginning your Ocean (Bluewater/International) seafaring career

You can choose between pursuing a Deck Officer or Engineer Officer career pathway (larger merchant vessels including tankers, bulk cargo carriers or passenger liners). This choice will affect which courses and examinations you need to undertake and your tasks and responsibilities while you are working on a vessel.

Beginning your Coastal (Australian) seafaring career

Coastal seafarers may start their career as a deckhand on small coastal vessels such as a tug, tourism boat or fishing vessel. Coastal seafarers often obtain both deck officer and engineer officer qualifications (and license).

Marine Surveying

The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) as the professional body for marine surveying, recognises the need to promote the profession and the professionals within it to the highest level. In collaboration with the University of Portsmouth, we have developed a range of Diplomas that will provide students with the underpinning knowledge and skills that can provide a lead into a BSc (Hons) Degree and MSc Course in Maritime Studies. The Diploma program allows you to decide when and how long you want to study. If you travel, you can take the modules with you. The benefit of studying with the Institute is that you become a Student Member of the Institute whilst training and you can therefore participate in all Institute activities, including one day courses, seminars and conferences. One of the most beneficial factors of distance learning study is that you apply your learning immediately. As the course progresses you can apply the knowledge, skills and expertise gained to your work.
