David Maynard was awarded a Bachelor of Applied Science (Fisheries) from AMC in 1992. He has since worked in the seafood processing sector in Tasmania, the aquaculture industry in Queensland and as a research scientist for the rock lobster industry in South Australia. He was also a consultant in endemic fishes for the Queen Victoria Museum, Launceston. David commenced work at AMC in 1998 as a Technical Officer for the Flume Tank.
Currently, David has a broad range of responsibilities and interests within the Faculty. Primarily he co-ordinates the undergraduate training activities and research programs aboard FTV Bluefin and manages the commercial dive team activities. He also teaches the unit, Underwater Technology and Dive Operations.
David has interests in the development and application of real time and remote underwater camera systems and remote sensing (seabed and habitat mapping). He is currently developing a series of posters and publications based on the sharks, rays and fishes of South Eastern Australia.
During his free time he enjoys a range of outdoor activities including kayaking, mountain biking, trout fishing and bush walking.
