Life at AMC

The Australian Maritime College is Australia’s national institute for maritime education, training and research. We were ranked #1 globally in the latest International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) benchmarks.

AMC provides a vibrant on campus experience with a welcoming community of students and staff. Located in Tasmania, AMC is renowned for its outstanding courses and extraordinary location. You’ll have the chance to explore nature and access adventure while you study. From field work and hands on learning, to hiking across Tasmania’s iconic bush tracks and sailing through scenic uncrowded waters, your experience here will be unforgettable.

AMC Student Association

The AMC Student Association (AMCSA) is the most active student network on the Newnham campus. AMCSA operates the only independent student run bar in Australia: Seafarers’ Uni Bar. Providing countless opportunities for events and on-campus entertainment, these experiences are often mentioned as a highlight among AMC students, creating a tightknit community among classmates.

All profits are used to give back to students and fund more activities on campus throughout the year. The association’s committee is voted in by its student members yearly, providing true student representation.

Tasmanian Lifestyle

Your university years are about more than study. You need a balance between hard work and plenty of play and Tasmania is the perfect playground.

Northern Tasmania has all you need for a perfect short break or extended holiday. Roughly half a day to anywhere on the island, base yourself in our region and discover the plethora of natural and historic attractions without fuss or frenzy. With fresh air and a healthy climate Northern Tasmania celebrates four distinctive seasons and serves as your doorway to some of the wildest places in Australia.

Northern Tasmania offers a haven of nourished farmland, which creates fresh, beautiful produce such as well acclaimed truffles, seafood and velvety cool climate wines. Along with farmland, Northern Tasmania is a gateway for many adventure activities as it provides vast rugged wilderness.  Mountain biking enthusiasts come not only to experience the gnarly trails, but also to feel the serenity that the untouched wilderness of national parks provides. However, this type of intimacy with nature is also enjoyed proudly by road cyclists too as they ride along our back roads; a streetscape of vineyards, farmland and the occasional historic charming nod that only a eighteenth century cottage can provide.
